Theon International, a defense firm headquartered in Cyprus, has secured a contract through the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation (OCCAR) to deliver its latest IRIS-C thermal clip-on systems to Germany and Belgium. The agreement is initially valued at 50 million euros ($58.7 million), with options that could expand it to 150 million euros ($176 million).
Deliveries are planned for the 2026–2027 period in cooperation with Andres Industries of Germany, which will provide in-country support and maintenance. The partnership ensures not only supply but also lifecycle sustainment of the new systems, a critical factor for frontline forces.
The IRIS-C introduces a significant leap in capability for dismounted soldiers. As a next-generation clip-on, it augments standard optical sights by integrating thermal imaging, giving operators the ability to detect and track threats in complex environments, day or night. Its design ensures compatibility with both Theon’s own night vision goggles and a wide range of third-party systems.
When paired with Theon’s Smart Battery Pack or Smart Gateway, the IRIS-C extends its utility even further. The system can overlay augmented reality features such as friend-or-foe identification, mission planning data, and target recognition. Its connectivity with existing Battle Management Systems allows operators to access critical tactical information in real time, greatly enhancing situational awareness for European armed forces.
