The US Army has awarded Teledyne FLIR a five-year contract to deploy its Black Hornet 4 Personal Reconnaissance Systems. Through hand-launched reconnaissance drones, the service is acquiring nano-unmanned aerial systems (nano-UAS) as part of its Soldier Borne Sensor initiative to improve warfighters’ situational awareness.In addition to the Black Hornet 4 drones, the $25 million deal will also cover related controllers, spare parts, and training sessions. All options under the deal must be exercised in order for Teledyne FLIR to receive up to $91 million.The company’s center in Norway will assist the systems’ assembly. In September 2024, the first order started to be delivered.
