Northrop Grumman has been given a $24.9 million contract by the US Department of Defense to conduct research and development for a new autonomous undersea sensing program. Enhancing the US Navy’s autonomous undersea threat detection capabilities is the goal of the Full Spectrum Undersea Warfare Innovative Naval Prototype Autonomous Undersea Exploitation project.It requires the creation of specific algorithms and sensor systems in order to push the limits of sonar-based perception and exploitation capabilities.
