The first No Manning Required Ship (NOMARS) prototype has been built by Serco and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The NOMARS program aims to create a fleet of medium-sized unmanned surface ships that will be used for payload transporters for the US Navy without the need for mission systems or human assistance. The first testbed, known as the “USX Defiant,” will now go through intricate aquatic experiments both in the theater and at the dock.
