The USS Nantucket (LCS 27), the 14th Freedom-class littoral combat ship, has been put into service by the US Navy at Boston, Massachusetts.The occasion came after the ship was delivered in July 2024 and underwent acceptance trials in 2022. In 2017, Lockheed Martin and Fincantieri Marinette Marine started building as part of the US Department of Defense’s goal to update its fleet of warships.Following a coastal monitor ship from the Civil War and a gunboat from the early 1910s that was later transformed into a maritime training system, it is the third vessel to be named Nantucket.
