Thales has been selected by the Qatar Emiri Air Force to deliver a suite of next-generation air defense radars, reinforcing the Gulf nation’s aerial surveillance and early-warning capabilities. The contract reflects Qatar’s continued investment in modern air defense systems to counter emerging and complex airborne threats.

The order comprises Thales’ GM200 MM/A and GM400α Ground Master radars, offering layered airspace monitoring across short, medium, and long ranges. These radar solutions are designed to support multi-mission operations, including the detection of low-signature and highly maneuverable targets in challenging operational environments.

In addition to hardware delivery, the agreement covers training programs for operators and technicians, sustainment systems, and on-site national management support specialists. Thales stated that the local support effort will continue until 2036, enabling Qatari personnel to independently operate and maintain the radar systems over their full service life.

The GM200 MM/A provides mobile, high-performance aerial surveillance with a detection range reaching 350 kilometers and can be rapidly deployed thanks to its ISO-containerized design. The GM400α radar offers enhanced tracking of targets with slow to fast maneuver profiles and can be installed from a vehicle in approximately one hour using its integrated lifting system. Both radars leverage Thales’ Secure Digital Integration Platform, allowing secure data fusion and real-time air domain awareness across interconnected sensing and command networks.
