South Korea’s ambitious Block-I electronic warfare aircraft program, valued at 1.78 trillion won ($1.31 billion), has attracted a joint bid from Korean Air and LIG Nex1. The project aims to deliver the country’s first purpose-built electronic attack platform.
The two firms will present their proposal in September, featuring a converted mid-sized civilian aircraft optimized to detect hostile signals and jam or disrupt enemy air defense and command systems in wartime.
In the collaboration, Korean Air will focus on system integration, aircraft modification, and final assembly, while LIG Nex1 will take charge of developing and installing the EW suite.
The initiative underscores South Korea’s efforts to expand indigenous defense capabilities and strengthen its position in the field of electronic warfare, an area critical to modern conflict.
