A deal has been reached between Peru’s state-owned shipyard SIMA and South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to jointly create a 1,500-ton submarine for the Peruvian Navy. As part of the nation’s larger maritime modernization initiative, the project intends to replace Peru’s outdated submarine fleet with a new medium-sized vessel based on HD Hyundai’s HDS-1500 design.
