By late 2025, Rheinmetall anticipates securing a major Skyranger air defense system order from the German military, valued at 6–8 billion euros ($6.9–$9.2 billion). CEO Armin Papperger described it as a substantial procurement that will equip the Bundeswehr with a large fleet of mobile air defense platforms.

Exact numbers remain undisclosed, but earlier German defense planning indicates a potential purchase of 500–600 Skyranger 30 systems in multiple configurations, according to Defence Industry Europe. The acquisition will begin with a framework agreement and proceed through incremental execution contracts.

Delivery is projected in two stages: the first spanning from contract initiation through 2029, and the second covering 2029 to 2035. This staggered schedule is designed to ensure sustained capability growth and manageable integration into the armed forces.

The program fits within Germany’s broader effort to raise defense spending to roughly 3.5 percent of GDP by 2029, aligning with NATO commitments. With NATO’s capability goals set for revision in the same year, the Skyranger deal could become a central pillar of Berlin’s defense modernization agenda.
