Hyundai Rotem has announced a new collaboration with U.S. defense tech innovator Shield AI to develop AI-enabled drones and autonomous control technologies capable of supporting man-machine teaming on the battlefield. The initiative was unveiled during a signing ceremony in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, solidifying a growing partnership between the two defense technology leaders.
The joint development effort focuses on creating intelligent, autonomous systems that can independently perform complex reconnaissance and combat missions with limited human input. These solutions are intended to work in tandem with soldiers, offering real-time intelligence, mission adaptability, and increased operational efficiency in both urban and contested environments.
Leveraging Hyundai Rotem’s defense production capabilities and Shield AI’s artificial intelligence and autonomy expertise, the partnership seeks to accelerate the deployment of smart defense platforms capable of handling the demands of next-generation warfare. Such systems could play a crucial role in force protection, surveillance, and precision engagement in future conflict zones.
The collaboration aligns with the global defense industry’s shift toward AI-centric warfare, particularly as asymmetric and networked conflicts become more prevalent. Both companies aim to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions that will shape the future of autonomous combat and defense robotics.
