In a major advancement for India’s indigenous defense technology, Gurugram-based deep-tech startup Sharang Shakti has introduced vajR, a fully autonomous, hard-kill drone interceptor system. Designed to counter modern UAV threats in real time, vajR represents one of the first reusable, AI-enabled kinetic drone defense platforms developed by an Indian private company.
As drone incursions become an increasing concern—particularly in high-security zones—vajR offers a robust alternative to traditional soft-kill solutions like jamming and spoofing. Entirely developed within India, the system combines smart targeting, rapid interception, and reusability, delivering a powerful response to aerial threats.
vajR autonomously launches from a dedicated smart hangar, using targeting information from radar or optical sensors. Once airborne, it relies on onboard sensors and neural networks to detect, track, and lock onto hostile drones, eventually neutralizing them through high-speed physical collision.
This kinetic approach offers distinct advantages in contested environments where electronic countermeasures may be compromised by signal interference or operational latency, making vajR a valuable asset for front-line defense applications.
