Sweden has selected Saab to deliver advanced Arthur counter-battery radar systems under a contract valued at approximately $119 million, reinforcing the country’s artillery detection and force protection capabilities. Signed with the Defence Materiel Administration, the agreement includes radar deliveries, vehicle integration, and long-term support, with fielding planned for 2027.

Arthur is a mobile, fully digital artillery-locating radar designed to identify and track artillery shells, rockets, and mortars within seconds of launch. The system uses precise trajectory analysis to determine the firing location and predict impact points, providing actionable intelligence for counter-battery operations and command-and-control networks.

The radar configuration ordered by Sweden offers a detection range of up to 100 kilometers, allowing early warning and rapid response against indirect fire threats. With an antenna measuring roughly three meters, Arthur can be mounted on a wide range of military vehicles without the need for dedicated platforms.

To enhance battlefield survivability, Arthur features low electromagnetic and infrared signatures, reducing exposure to enemy detection. Its rapid setup and teardown time of under two minutes minimizes vulnerability in high-threat environments, while the contract framework enables long-term sustainment and potential participation by other allied nations.
