Saab has secured a significant contract from the Swedish government for the supply of 22 CB90HSM combat boats, a deal valued at approximately 900 million Swedish kronor (around $94 million USD). The vessels will be produced at Saab’s Docksta shipyard, with deliveries expected to be completed over the coming years.
The CB90HSM (High-Speed Maneuverable) represents the latest iteration of Saab’s CB90-class combat boats. This upgraded version is built entirely from aluminum and is specifically designed for high-speed military operations in coastal environments. Key enhancements include superior speed, agility, firepower, and improved onboard situational awareness systems.
This contract follows a separate order placed by Sweden in June 2024 for 10 next-generation combat boats worth $38 million, indicating the country’s growing focus on strengthening its coastal defense fleet.
The CB90HSM measures 16.3 meters (53.5 feet) in total length, with a hull length of 14.9 meters and a shallow draft of 0.9 meters (3 feet), enabling it to operate efficiently in shallow waters. The boat can reach top speeds of over 40 knots (74 km/h or 46 mph) when fully loaded, while cruising at 38 knots (70 km/h or 43 mph). Its operational range of 300 nautical miles (345 miles or 555 km) makes it well-suited for extended coastal patrols and rapid troop deployment missions.
