Swedish defense firm Saab has received a $46-million contract from the US Army to supply an unspecified number of Giraffe 1X 3D radar systems. The agreement supports security cooperation initiatives and aims to strengthen the air surveillance capabilities of allied forces. According to Saab, deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2026, reinforcing the company’s growing footprint in the US radar and sensor market.
The Giraffe 1X is recognized as one of the most lightweight and mobile radar solutions in its class, weighing less than 150 kilograms. Its design enables quick setup and redeployment, making it ideal for both land and maritime applications. The radar can be mounted on tactical vehicles, integrated into naval platforms, or positioned at stationary defense sites.
With its ability to provide real-time 360-degree airspace surveillance, the Giraffe 1X delivers advanced detection of hostile drones, cruise missiles, and other airborne threats. The system also supports interoperable data links with modern command-and-control infrastructures, enhancing coordinated defense responses and multi-domain situational awareness across allied forces.
