A team of students from Russia’s Southern Federal University has introduced a virtual simulation platform that mimics real-life training with anti-drone weaponry and surveillance equipment. The initiative aims to equip future soldiers with operational experience in drone defense through digital immersion.
The system is developed using Unreal Engine, a gaming technology by Epic Games, and creates realistic 3D environments that emulate combat zones. Within this space, users handle digital replicas of actual anti-drone guns, practicing tactical movements and equipment operation under simulated threats.
Key battlefield variables such as disrupted GPS signals, radio jamming, and operational gear responses are integrated into the simulator. This helps participants build essential combat readiness and decision-making skills in a safe setting.
This innovation highlights a growing trend in leveraging gaming engines for military preparedness and reflects an effort to provide accessible training solutions without needing physical deployment to hostile areas.
