Vietnam is reportedly moving forward with a $250-million defense cooperation agreement with Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to establish domestic production of the Spike Firefly loitering munition. The deal includes technology transfer from Israel and the establishment of a licensed production facility inside Vietnam. Once approvals are finalized, a local company will assume responsibility for manufacturing operations. Designed specifically for close-quarters and urban combat, Spike Firefly weighs approximately 3 kilograms and enables small units to identify, track, and engage targets with precision. Armed with either a fragmentation or shaped-charge warhead, the system can operate effectively in dense urban terrain and open areas. Its endurance allows for both rapid strikes and extended surveillance before engagement. The munition has been employed operationally by Israeli forces, enhancing its credibility as a mature and combat-tested system.
