The Polish Ministry of Defense has finalized a new contract with WB Group to acquire additional FlyEye reconnaissance drones, reinforcing the nation’s intelligence and surveillance capabilities. The deal includes comprehensive maintenance, logistics, and operator training services, with deliveries slated for completion by 2025.
This latest procurement stems from a 2023 framework agreement for 1,600 FlyEye drones, valued as one of Poland’s largest tactical UAV programs. The Polish Armed Forces have already placed multiple orders under the framework, including seven drones in April 2024 and 52 in November 2024. The move reflects Warsaw’s ongoing efforts to expand indigenous UAV production and strengthen defense autonomy through local partnerships.
Developed by WB Group, the FlyEye is a lightweight, modular, close-range UAV optimized for rapid field deployment. Operators can assemble and launch the system in under 10 minutes, even in urban or confined zones. Equipped with day-and-night cameras mounted in a gyrostabilized observation head, the drone supports real-time surveillance and can carry optional light weaponry or acoustic sensors for battlefield awareness.
Measuring 3.6 meters in wingspan and 1.8 meters in length, the FlyEye operates at speeds between 60 and 120 km/h, with a maximum altitude of 3,000 meters. Its electric motor and lithium-polymer batteries enable over 2.5 hours of endurance and 180 km line-of-sight connectivity. The UAV also features a parachute landing system for safe payload recovery, dual ground control units, and built-in anti-icing protection. Beyond Poland’s defense sector, the FlyEye is actively deployed by the Polish Border Guard, Malaysia, and Ukraine, underscoring its growing international demand.
