Harmattan AI, a Paris-based defense technology startup, has been awarded a multi-million-euro contract by France’s Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) to supply 1,000 AI-driven combat drones. The delivery is scheduled between October and December and will support the operational development of the French Army.
The micro-drones — compact quadcopters weighing 1.8 kilograms — will play a key role in soldier training and battlefield simulation exercises, including participation in Orion 2026, a major multinational military exercise. Fully developed by Harmattan AI, the drones are described as autonomous, scalable, and optimized for tactical applications.
Each unit is equipped with an electro-optical surveillance system and supports integration of an infrared camera for enhanced imaging in complex environments. With a 40-minute endurance and a range of up to 2 kilometers, the drones are built for versatility in short-range recon and support missions.
