At the Modern Day Marine expo in Washington, DC, Northrop Grumman debuted the “Lumberjack,” a one-way assault drone.Through an onboard data link that allows for real-time communications, the modular, jet-powered loitering munition can be fired from the ground or the air and operates either autonomously or under human control. The Lumberjack can be set up to execute submunitions, such as the company’s six-pound (2.7-kilogram) explosives, in electronic warfare, reconnaissance, or kinetic strikes.
