In line with its clean energy agenda, Nigeria has deployed its first military fleet powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), according to domestic media sources. The fleet—comprising 20 buses, 50 pickup vans, and 14 high-end transport units—was officially commissioned at Abuja’s Mogadishu Cantonment.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to adopt eco-friendly alternatives in public and defense transportation. CNG not only lowers greenhouse gas emissions but also delivers comparable performance and fuel efficiency to conventional engines. It is created by compressing natural gas to less than 1% of its standard volume, enabling safer and more efficient vehicle fueling for various operational scales.
