GORE-TEX Labs has launched a new generation of PYRAD flame-retardant combat uniforms, offering superior cooling, protection, and flexibility for soldiers operating in high-temperature environments. Designed specifically for climates exceeding 30°C (86°F), the suit features lightweight, stretchable, and highly breathable fabrics that provide reliable flame resistance without compromising comfort. The aim is to eliminate the overheating and restricted movement associated with legacy flame-retardant materials.

To achieve this, GORE-TEX designed area-specific laminates, placing lightweight textiles in less critical zones and reinforcing high-wear areas like the knees, shoulders, and elbows with tougher materials. Rigorous field trials conducted with special forces and naval personnel across the Middle East, Mediterranean Sea, and Pacific demonstrated that the suit withstands harsh terrain, friction, and pressure from plate carriers. Testers reported reduced fatigue, improved endurance, and better overall mission effectiveness.

In addition to the PYRAD suit, GORE-TEX Labs has expanded its military clothing line with a lightweight all-weather jacket optimized for cold, windy, and variable environments. The jacket enhances protection during harsh-weather missions and complements the company’s broader portfolio of advanced soldier systems. Together, these innovations underscore the company’s focus on mission-ready, climate-adaptive gear.

This launch aligns with a wider trend of combat suit modernization worldwide. Early 2025 saw the Nordic region adopt the Nordic Combat Uniform (NCU) system, a layered ensemble built with integrated flame-retardant materials for use in severe Arctic conditions. Turkey has joined the movement as well, unveiling advanced combat uniforms by Raff Military Textile, engineered with fire resistance, water repellence, and insect protection for hot or tropical environments. Meanwhile, the private sector continues to innovate, with Crye Precision’s G3.5 line introducing flame-resistant, moisture-absorbing shirts and trousers designed for enhanced airflow, comfort, and movement.
