A new strategic collaboration between US company L3Harris and Italy’s ELT Group will establish Italy’s inaugural multi-sensor intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance test facility—the first such center outside the US. The facility is designed to boost defense infrastructure and mission readiness, particularly supporting sophisticated airborne systems. Key beneficiaries include the Joint Airborne Multi-Mission Multi-Sensor System (JAMMS) and the EA-37B Compass Call electronic warfare aircraft, both based on the Gulfstream G550 platform.
Earlier this month, Italy signed a $300 million contract with L3Harris to deliver two G550 aircraft equipped with cutting-edge electromagnetic warfare suites. This initiative is historically significant as it represents the US government’s first approval to export the EA-37B Compass Call aircraft to an international partner. L3Harris, in partnership with BAE Systems, will lead the delivery and integration of these advanced electronic warfare assets, elevating Italy’s defense and electronic attack capabilities.
