The US Navy’s new “Liberty Class” unmanned vessel marks a significant shift toward autonomous sea operations. Built by Blue Water Autonomy, the 190-foot ship can operate for months without a crew and travel 10,000 nautical miles. With a payload capacity of 150 metric tons, it can deploy missile systems, advanced sensors, or logistics supplies. The platform supports escorted missions alongside conventional warships, reducing personnel exposure while expanding operational reach. Its autonomous capabilities are aligned with future distributed fleet strategies emphasizing resilience and persistence.
