The US Navy has begun integrating HII’s Lionfish unmanned underwater vehicles into its operational structure, following the handover of the first two units under a lucrative multi-platform contract. Lionfish drones are purpose-built for flexibility, enabling deployment in tasks such as environmental monitoring, anti-mine sweeps, and maritime security patrols.

These advanced UUVs benefit from scalable support, extensive technical documentation, and ongoing auxiliary service upgrades, which collectively ensure the systems remain mission-capable throughout their operational lifespans. The program underscores a broader Navy pivot toward undersea robotics, confirming HII’s role as a key partner in maritime autonomy and the sustainment of strategic underwater supremacy.
