In 2026, the U.S. Army plans to launch prototyping work on a modular electronic warfare (EW) kit designed for universal use across different platforms. The development marks an important step in advancing the Army’s ability to field adaptable, scalable solutions against evolving threats.
The project, titled the Modular Mission Payload (MMP), is part of the broader Army Transformation Initiative. This initiative is centered on creating a common, standardized framework for systems and software that can easily integrate into multiple platforms through a plug-and-play architecture.
A program manager from the Army’s Intelligence, EW and Sensors office explained that the project remains at a preliminary stage. The upcoming year will focus heavily on research and evaluation to better define its potential roles and effectiveness.
At present, officials noted that details regarding production numbers and operational demand remain uncertain. The prototyping process will help determine how many units are required and identify the most effective placements within Army formations.
