Edge Autonomy has been awarded a contract to supply its VXE30 Stalker drone for the prototype phase of the US Army’s Long Range Reconnaissance (LRR) program. The initiative is designed to identify a mobile, all-weather platform capable of performing RSTA missions across varied and challenging environments.

The VXE30 is intended to augment the Army’s existing reconnaissance fleet, which currently includes small UAVs like the AeroVironment RQ-11 Raven. Its design emphasizes portability, endurance, and adaptability to multiple mission profiles.

According to the Army, the version supplied by Edge Autonomy—part of Redwire Corporation—will feature cutting-edge sensors, encrypted communications systems, autonomous operation modes, and a modular payload architecture to accommodate specialized mission equipment.

Engineered for long-duration intelligence gathering in contested airspace, the VXE30 Stalker will be put through operational assessments over the coming months, helping determine its role in the Army’s future reconnaissance capabilities.
