L3Harris Technologies has obtained its largest production contract for submarine communications systems, delivering 26 shipsets for Virginia- and Columbia-class submarines under an agreement with General Dynamics Electric Boat.
The upgraded communication suites will bolster secure connectivity and situational awareness for submarine crews, ensuring dependable information exchange during complex missions. The contract runs through 2033 and could extend to additional Columbia-class submarines and allied fleets.
The award continues L3Harris’ extensive involvement in US submarine programs, including past contributions to the Ohio- and Los Angeles-class fleets.
The Virginia-class submarine serves as a nuclear-powered attack submarine optimized for multi-domain missions, while the forthcoming Columbia-class submarine will replace the Ohio-class and represent the future of America’s strategic undersea deterrent, featuring enhanced stealth, advanced sensors, and a life-of-ship nuclear reactor.
