Kopin Corporation has secured a $15.4 million contract from the US Army to deliver next-generation MicroLED augmented reality (AR) displays. The new systems, described as ultra-bright and full-color, are designed to give soldiers a clearer battlefield view under both harsh sunlight and low-light conditions. Offering greater energy efficiency and durability compared to conventional displays, these AR units are intended to boost soldier performance across diverse missions.
The company stated that the award affirms its position as a cornerstone in America’s defense and domestic manufacturing sectors. By advancing AR display technology, Kopin seeks to revolutionize battlefield vision systems, enabling troops to maintain stronger situational awareness and improved operational readiness. The firm also highlighted that MicroLED systems reduce risks of screen glitches, a key factor for long missions where display reliability is critical.
This program is a continuation of Kopin’s earlier defense work, such as its Soldier Display Trade Study and its Phase 2 SBIR contract, which laid the groundwork for extended reality prototypes integrated into soldier gear. Under the current contract, Kopin will also establish domestic production capacity through the Industrial Base Analysis program, managed by the Army Contracting Command and the Office of the Secretary of Defense.
Backed by over 40 years of expertise, Kopin has delivered more than 400,000 vision systems for defense customers worldwide. The company also received a $7.5 million order in April 2025 to supply microdisplays to a Department of Defense contractor, further reinforcing its long-standing role in advancing US military technology.
