The Kazakh Ministry of Defense has established a specialized artificial intelligence division, signaling the nation’s push toward AI-enabled defense modernization. This move marks Kazakhstan’s first structured step into the realm of digital warfare technologies.

The new unit will focus on designing, testing, and applying AI systems to military operations. Its objectives include strengthening mission planning, improving situational awareness, and supporting troops with advanced digital tools.

The initiative comes after President Tokayev urged the defense sector to accelerate digital transformation. He stressed the need for AI to be a cornerstone of Kazakhstan’s military modernization agenda.

According to Deputy Defense Minister Darkhan Akhmediev, the establishment of the AI division reflects the government’s strategic vision. The unit will act as a driver of technological progress, ensuring the armed forces are better prepared for the demands of future conflicts.
