In a major international collaboration, Ukraine’s Ukroboronprom and American company D&M Holding have joined forces to launch a gunpowder production venture in the United States. The partnership aims to address Ukraine’s critical shortage of ammunition components, particularly gunpowder, which is essential to sustain the country’s wartime manufacturing needs.
The announcement came during a global conference focused on rebuilding Ukraine, held in Rome. The joint venture is strategically placed in the US to safeguard the plant from potential Russian missile threats and will support the production of high-demand munitions, especially 155mm artillery rounds.
Ukraine began manufacturing these NATO-standard rounds domestically in September, in a push toward independence from foreign supplies. Previously, the country relied on outdated Soviet 152mm ammunition and Western-donated 155mm shells. The new US-based facility marks a critical leap forward in expanding Ukraine’s long-term defense industrial base and fortifying its supply chain against future disruptions.
