The U.S. State Department has approved a possible $211 million Foreign Military Sale to Italy for Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) and related equipment. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) has submitted the congressional notification required for this potential transaction.

Italy’s proposed acquisition includes thirty (30) AIM-120D-3 missiles, forty (40) AIM-120C-8 missiles, and two (2) AIM-120C-7 guidance sections, along with spare parts, containers, support software, technical publications, training equipment, and comprehensive logistics and engineering services. Both classified and unclassified elements are covered in the package.

This sale would enhance Italy’s air-to-air capabilities, ensuring it remains equipped to face present and future threats while strengthening U.S. and NATO defense cooperation. Italy already operates AMRAAMs, which will facilitate smooth absorption of the new systems.

The primary contractor for the sale will be RTX Corporation in Tucson, Arizona. No offset arrangements have been identified at this stage, and the sale will not require U.S. personnel to be stationed in Italy. The deal will not affect U.S. military readiness, and the final contract value may be adjusted based on Italy’s confirmed needs and budget.
