Fincantieri Group has reinforced its role in Italy’s naval digital transformation after its subsidiary e-phors secured a contract to improve the cybersecurity of Italian Navy vessels. The agreement focuses on protecting critical onboard networks from cyber intrusions while enhancing operational resilience across the fleet.
The solution will integrate cyber defense capabilities into the ships’ Ship Management Systems, enabling continuous monitoring and rapid countermeasures against cyber threats. Designed for naval operating environments, the system enhances platform protection while supporting secure mission execution during both peacetime and high-intensity operations.
E-phors’ cyber technologies are optimized for defense-specific maritime digital ecosystems, providing ship crews with actionable insights during cyber events. The initiative builds on the Italian Navy’s ongoing cyber hardening strategy and follows the successful deployment of similar capabilities on Bergamini-class frigates.
Beyond cybersecurity, Fincantieri continues to advance multiple naval programs for the Italian Navy. In recent months, the company launched the Quirinale hydro-oceanographic vessel, announced plans for a new versatile supply ship developed through its Underwater Technology Hub, and confirmed contracts to build two additional Pattugliatore Polivalente d’Altura (PPA) multipurpose combat ships. Managed by the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation, the PPA program will see Fincantieri deliver the vessels in “light plus” configuration in 2029 and 2030, with Leonardo serving as an industrial partner.
