Israel has reportedly used a high-powered laser weapon in combat for the first time, successfully intercepting kamikaze drones launched by Hezbollah from Lebanon.

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems released footage showing the laser locking onto and disabling a moving aerial target within seconds.

The downed drone appeared to be a small, fixed-wing UAV with a conventional design, similar to the Iranian-made Ababil-T or other one-way attack drones frequently employed by Hezbollah.

“Israel is the first nation to turn high-energy laser technology into a fully operational system and carry out real combat interceptions,” said Dr. Yuval Steinitz, Chairman of Rafael.
