Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII), a major US-based shipbuilder, has revealed ROMULUS, a next-generation unmanned surface vessel (USV) family powered by its Odyssey Autonomous Control System. The new platform reflects HII’s commitment to integrating autonomy into naval fleets as demand for unmanned solutions rises worldwide.

At the center of the series is the ROMULUS 190, a 58-meter (190-foot) ship now under construction through a collaboration with Breaux Brothers, Beier Integrated Systems, and Incat Crowther. By working with these established industry partners, HII is ensuring the vessel’s design remains both reliable and optimized for large-scale production.

The ROMULUS 190 features a commercial-based hull design aimed at streamlining mass manufacturing. Once completed, the vessel is projected to achieve speeds exceeding 25 knots, sustain operations over a range of 2,500 nautical miles (4,630 kilometers/2,878 miles), and support mission flexibility with space for four 40-foot ISO containers. This mix of speed, endurance, and modular capacity positions the vessel as a versatile asset for modern naval operations.
