Winning in modern air combat with the F-35 Lightning II requires more than sheer speed; it demands precise virtual training, collaborative exercises, and international teamwork to sustain mission readiness. Recently, personnel from HII at Nellis U.S. Air Force Base in Nevada collaborated with F-35 pilots from both the U.S. Air Force and Royal Australian Air Force during a coalition exercise within the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE).
The JSE, hosted at the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center Nellis (JITTC-N), is considered the most hyper-realistic battlespace simulation ever developed by the U.S. Air Force, delivering immersive and connected synthetic training. HII acts as a principal contractor overseeing the software’s development, integration, and operational support.
Led by the U.S. Air Force 31st Combat Training Squadron (CTS), the exercise’s purpose was to train Royal Australian Air Force pilots in F-35 simulators against contractor-operated adversaries known as Red-Air. Feedback from this exercise was then used to enhance mission capabilities during the 29 Test Evaluation Squadron’s Simulation Capabilities Assessment the following week.
