The Royal Netherlands Navy has selected the French F21 Mk2 heavyweight torpedo to equip its future Orka-class submarines, replacing plans to reuse the older Mk48 system. Developed by Naval Group, the F21 uses fiber-optic guidance and electric propulsion, offering quieter operation and improved resistance to electronic interference. The torpedo can strike ships and submarines in deep and coastal waters, reaching speeds of up to 50 knots with a range of more than 30 nautical miles. The weapon will arm the new Orka submarine fleet scheduled to begin delivery in 2033.
