NORAD and USNORTHCOM have begun a large-scale counter-drone exercise known as Falcon Peak, designed to enhance defenses against small unmanned aerial system (sUAS) threats. Taking place at Eglin Air Force Base, the exercise runs until September 19, 2025, and is being hailed as one of the most ambitious c-UAS trials ever conducted on American soil.

The event features simulated drone attacks on U.S. military bases, with UAS launched daily from Santa Rosa Island. These scenarios test the effectiveness of layered defense networks by forcing participating units to respond to persistent aerial incursions under operationally realistic conditions.

Falcon Peak evaluates a broad mix of counter-drone technologies, ranging from sensors and jammers to kinetic interceptors, all working in combination. The goal is to determine which systems can be effectively deployed to protect U.S. bases from drone swarms and evolving unmanned threats.

To maintain safety, the 96th Test Wing has designated restricted maritime areas surrounding the test zone and broadcasts regular alerts on maritime radio frequencies. By blending innovation, realism, and large-scale participation, Falcon Peak underscores how the U.S. military is preparing to counter the growing drone warfare challenge.
