HENSOLDT has won new radar contracts exceeding €100 million under the European Sky Shield Initiative, a multinational air defense program led by Germany to strengthen Europe’s collective protection against aerial threats. The contracts further expand the company’s footprint within Europe’s rapidly evolving air and missile defense networks.
As part of agreements with Diehl Defence, HENSOLDT will supply additional TRML-4D active electronically scanned array radars, supported by maintenance and training services. These systems will be integrated with IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense systems operated by multiple ESSI participant nations. The TRML-4D radar provides 360-degree surveillance and is designed to detect and track threats such as cruise missiles, unmanned aerial systems, rockets, and fixed-wing aircraft.
According to HENSOLDT, the ESSI framework has significantly increased demand for networked sensor and missile solutions. The company emphasized that its software-defined and modular radar architecture enables faster development cycles and improved operational performance. HENSOLDT currently holds ESSI-related contracts covering more than 150 radar systems, spanning its TRML-4D, Spexer, and Twinvis radar families.
The latest order reflects sustained momentum within the ESSI program, which has seen multiple European nations commit to joint procurement efforts. Latvia and Slovenia signed early contracts in July 2024 for TRML-4D radars alongside IRIS-T SLM systems. Additional agreements followed in 2025, including Switzerland’s joint acquisition with Germany, Slovenia’s follow-on purchase of IRIS-T SLM fire units, and Denmark’s December 2025 contract to expand its medium-range ground-based air defense capabilities and protect key military and civilian assets.
