A collaboration between Poland’s P.H.U. Lechmar and France’s H2X-Defense has produced a cutting-edge hydrogen-powered unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) known as Hermione. The platform highlights a growing trend in defense technology toward sustainable and rapid-energy systems, boasting a three-minute hydrogen refueling cycle—a key advantage for fast-paced tactical operations.

The UGV is equipped with high-pressure hydrogen cylinders, certified under strict European safety standards, ensuring secure handling and storage of the fuel. To boost operational resilience, the system also draws supplemental power from an integrated 25-kilowatt battery unit, providing hybrid functionality that extends mission endurance and versatility.

Hermione’s propulsion relies on 8-kilowatt electric hub motors mounted in its wheels, delivering high torque and evenly distributing power across the vehicle. This design not only improves maneuverability but also supports operations in difficult terrain. By blending hydrogen fuel cell technology with electric mobility, the Hermione showcases how unmanned systems can be both environmentally sustainable and mission-capable, offering defense forces a reliable platform with rapid deployment capabilities.
