India has launched construction on its inaugural AI-integrated patrol vessel, a key asset for enhancing maritime security and conducting various operations within its exclusive economic zone.

Named the Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), the ship will be 117 meters in length, displacing about 2,700 tons, and capable of housing 121 personnel on board.

The NGOPV is designed for high endurance, with a maximum speed of 23 knots and a cruising range of 5,000 nautical miles, enabling extended presence in remote and contested maritime zones.

By incorporating artificial intelligence, the vessel is expected to boost autonomous decision-making, situational awareness, and mission adaptability, reinforcing India’s maritime defense posture.
