In a major milestone for its defense industry, Colombia’s Ministry of Defense has unveiled “Dragom,” the country’s first indigenous military drone, signaling a significant step toward defense technology self-reliance. The drone was designed and manufactured by the Colombian Aeronautical Industry Corporation (CIAC), marking the nation’s entry into locally produced aerial surveillance and strike capabilities.
The Dragom drone is engineered for dual-purpose operations, including intelligence gathering and targeted strike missions. It features advanced onboard systems such as high-definition imaging cameras, secure satellite navigation, and custom-built software for launch and mission control. With a flight endurance of 90 minutes, Dragom is capable of operating autonomously over a broad operational range.
The UAV was officially introduced to the public during the F-AIR Aeronautical Fair held in Rionegro, located in northern Colombia. Its debut highlights Colombia’s growing commitment to modernizing its defense forces with locally sourced, technologically advanced tools.
