The United Kingdom has approved a £279 million defense infrastructure contract to establish a new home for the Army’s cyber regiment, reinforcing national capabilities in cyber defense and information operations. The new facilities will be built at Duke of Gloucester Barracks, providing a long-term base for specialized cyber units.

Under the agreement, modern infrastructure will be created for 13 Signal Regiment, which delivers defensive cyber effects in support of British Army operations. The development includes a purpose-built Cyber, Information and Security Operations Centre, advanced technical and training facilities, and upgraded living quarters designed to meet future operational requirements.

The contract was awarded by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation to Bovis, with the project expected to support employment through 92 new roles, including positions for veterans and apprenticeship placements. Construction is planned to start in 2027, with the facility becoming fully operational by 2030.

Beyond cyber operations, the redevelopment includes expanded accommodation and housing upgrades, featuring 248 single rooms, 30 family homes, and refurbished residential units. The MoD emphasized that a significant portion of spending will benefit local suppliers and SMEs, supporting regional economic growth. The investment complements recent UK defense contracts focused on secure communications, digital systems, and cyber resilience, including programs led by BAE Systems and QinetiQ.
