The Royal Netherlands Navy has selected Blueye Robotics of Norway, working alongside Dutch partner RVI Tools, to provide a new set of underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). The partnership reflects the navy’s intent to expand its reliance on unmanned and remote-controlled maritime technologies.
While the contract does not specify the total number of systems ordered, the ROVs will be tailored with advanced features to meet the operational requirements of combat engineers and mine countermeasure specialists. These enhancements will allow the Dutch Navy to conduct safer inspections, underwater surveillance, and ordnance clearance operations.
According to defense officials, the selection of Blueye and RVI Tools came after a rigorous international competition. Several global suppliers had submitted proposals, but the Norwegian-Dutch collaboration ultimately secured the award based on performance, adaptability, and proven expertise.
The procurement demonstrates the Netherlands’ focus on integrating innovative unmanned technologies into its fleet. By equipping naval forces with modern underwater assets, the country strengthens its ability to respond to maritime threats and maintain operational readiness in increasingly contested waters.
