Under a fresh $162-million contract, BAE Systems is ramping up production for key structural parts of the celebrated M777 lightweight howitzer. Building on momentum from battlefield successes—especially in Ukraine—the company is leveraging its transatlantic industrial base, with new production beginning in Sheffield and extending into American supply networks.
The M777’s design enables quick deployment by vehicle, air transport, or helicopter, prized for its combination of firepower and agility. This new contract will help maintain a consistent output, supporting upgrades and replacements for both US and allied militaries who rely on highly mobile indirect fire support. Enhanced by its historical record in active conflicts, the modernized M777 remains central to the artillery arsenals of multiple nations eager for rapid response capabilities.
