Austria plans to launch its first domestically developed military satellite, BEACONSAT, in early 2027. Developed with the support of Austrian space company Gate Space, the satellite will help detect signal jamming and protect navigation systems used by armed forces across land, air, and sea operations. The platform will collect electronic data to identify interference threats in operational environments. The project reflects Europe’s growing focus on strengthening space-based defense capabilities, following similar satellite initiatives launched by countries such as Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, and Portugal.
