Anduril Industries has acquired American Infrared Solutions (AIRS) to advance its infrared sensing technology and bolster its thermal imaging product line across defense, space, and industrial markets. The acquisition enhances Anduril’s control over a critical sensor supply chain while broadening its hardware and imaging expertise.
Under the agreement, AIRS’ cooled infrared camera technology will be integrated into Anduril’s AI-driven mission systems, expanding its capabilities in airborne, maritime, and ground-based surveillance. The move enables Anduril to field high-performance infrared sensors for diverse defense platforms, pairing advanced optics with its autonomous and AI software for superior detection and targeting performance.
AIRS will remain operational at its New Hampshire facility, continuing to manufacture and distribute cooled cameras to defense and commercial users. By bringing AIRS in-house, Anduril secures a strategic advantage in the increasingly competitive market for thermal imaging and electro-optical systems.
This acquisition mirrors a broader shift in global defense strategy, as militaries invest in infrared and multispectral systems to improve situational awareness and counter emerging threats. Cooled infrared sensors play a key role in modern warfare, equipping assets like the MQ-9 Reaper, Gray Eagle drones, and naval targeting pods with long-range tracking and precision strike capabilities. These systems also power counter-drone technologies, including Leonardo DRS’s MX-GCS and Teledyne FLIR’s Boson+ modules, providing reliable threat detection even in low-visibility conditions.
