AeroVironment (AV) has joined forces with OpenJAUS to bring enhanced interoperability and simplified integration to autonomous and remotely operated systems. The new collaboration will link OpenJAUS’s software development kit with AeroVironment’s AV_Halo Command platform, allowing a more unified and efficient control environment across multiple unmanned systems.
The integration will enable AV_Halo Command to communicate using the JAUS protocol (Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems), a standard backed by the US Department of Defense that promotes data and command exchange between unmanned vehicles from different domains and manufacturers. This step allows operators to easily integrate new vehicles or mission payloads without relying on closed, proprietary systems.
By adopting OpenJAUS, AeroVironment’s control software can now support a wide array of air, land, and sea platforms under a single, interoperable framework. This advancement reduces setup times, improves mission responsiveness, and allows defense organizations to adapt faster to evolving operational needs.
The collaboration represents a major milestone in multi-domain autonomy, aligning with the growing defense industry trend toward standardized, open-architecture systems. With this move, AeroVironment strengthens its leadership in providing flexible, modular, and interoperable unmanned solutions for global defense and security forces.
