In a major stride for homeland defense, U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) has completed its first-ever field certification of a mobile Counter-small Unmanned Aerial System (C-sUAS) “fly-away kit.” The week-long validation took place at Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, where an 11-person technical team successfully demonstrated the system’s ability to detect and neutralize multiple drone threats.
Throughout the evaluation, the USNORTHCOM team engaged over 100 drone targets across a variety of operational scenarios, showcasing the system’s agility and reliability. The exercise tested advanced detection sensors, real-time tracking algorithms, and layered countermeasure capabilities — all essential for protecting U.S. military infrastructure from the growing menace of unmanned aerial systems.
Conducted in partnership with the 5th Bomb Wing, the certification event highlights a significant leap in the U.S. military’s counter-drone readiness. The fly-away kit’s modular, mobile design allows rapid deployment to any installation facing drone incursions, ensuring quick response and adaptable defense coverage.
USNORTHCOM’s validation marks a pivotal step toward operational deployment of flexible counter-drone technologies across U.S. territories. As drone threats become more sophisticated, these systems will play a key role in safeguarding airspace security and maintaining strategic deterrence.
