Mack Defense has secured an order from the US Army for 86 M917A3 Heavy Dump Trucks, part of a continuing effort to modernize the service’s tactical logistics and engineering capabilities. These trucks will enhance the Army’s ability to support large-scale transport, construction, and recovery missions in both domestic and deployed environments.

Derived from Mack’s Granite platform, the M917A3 has been militarized with added armor protection, all-wheel drive, and a reinforced frame for high durability under demanding conditions. Capable of carrying up to 27 tons, the trucks provide substantial payload capacity to meet mission requirements in rough terrains and conflict zones.

This procurement supports the Army’s long-term Heavy Dump Truck replacement program, which aims to phase out the aging M917 fleet. Mack Defense stated that the vehicles will be assembled in the US, backed by a domestic production network designed to ensure timely delivery and lifecycle maintenance support.

The acquisition highlights the Army’s broader focus on logistics modernization through upgraded tactical vehicles. In recent years, the service has advanced several mobility initiatives, such as integrating digital control systems, boosting fuel efficiency, and testing hybrid-electric truck prototypes under the Common Tactical Truck program. These initiatives aim to improve supply chain resilience, reduce operational costs, and enhance overall readiness across the armed forces.
