Lockheed Martin has reached a key production milestone by delivering the 250th MK 48 Guidance and Control Section, a critical component for the US Navy’s primary submarine-launched torpedo. This system enhances the MK 48’s capabilities in engaging advanced underwater threats.

Engineered for high-performance in challenging environments, the guidance system includes real-time adaptive tracking, giving operators the ability to engage fast and deep-moving enemy targets. The MK 48 is the Navy’s go-to solution for both anti-submarine and anti-ship warfare.

This heavyweight torpedo is fueled by liquid propellant and features advanced sonar systems, precision guidance, and electronic detonation mechanisms. Its design supports mid-mission course corrections through integration with submarine fire control systems.

The MK 48 weighs nearly 3,744 pounds, spans 21 inches in diameter, and carries a powerful 650-pound warhead. Its precision and flexibility make it a key asset for maintaining undersea dominance in today’s complex threat environment.
